ABOUT US
Cyberscribe is a full-service technical communication firm that helps organizations realize and exploit the value of their information assets. Serving a wide range of industries, our projects have included online help, policies and procedures, product and service manuals, internal documentation, web content and training materials.
Our clients have included mineral exploration companies, retail brokerages, electronics manufacturers, playwrights, software giants, biomedical designers, big-box retail, temporary storage, language institutes, daycare centres and aerospace engineers.
We are located at 470 Kingsway, next door to St. Joseph’s Hospital. At the office, we enjoy a casual environment where open communication, fresh ideas and good humour are highly valued. We also enjoy the company of our corporate canine, Chuy Chihuahua, a rescued pooch with few teeth and an old soul who helps brighten our day.
At client sites and on the job, however, we are professional quality consultants, bringing the full extent of our collective experience to each and every project, working with integrity, efficiency and innovation to consistently achieve¾and surpass¾client expectations.
ABOUT THE JOB
At Cyberscribe, there is no such thing as a typical day. Because our focus is on technical communication and not on a specific industry, the possibilities are endless.
As one of our full-time technical communicators, you can expect to find yourself in charge of multiple small projects, contributing as a team player on larger efforts that involve specialized contractors, working toward project management responsibilities, writing internal documentation and corporate communication materials, and exploring the reaches of your own skills and interests.
In terms of technological experience, the following lists some of the tools that we regularly use:
· Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
· Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign; DreamWeaver; Illustrator; PhotoShop)
· Acrobat Professional; Acrobat Distiller
· FrameMaker (structured and unstructured)
· Flare, RoboHelp, AuthorIT; XMetaL
While you are not expected to know all of these applications, preference will be given to technical communicators who can demonstrate at least a cursory understanding of their capabilities and an aptitude for picking up new software tools.
Discussions regarding salary will be deferred to short-list interviews, but remuneration will be based on fit and experience.
ABOUT YOU
Ideally, we are looking for a strong technical communicator who thrives on the challenge and variety of project-based contract work but is not necessarily interested in the burden of self-marketing, financial feast or famine, contractual risk and other uncertainties associated with being a sole proprietor.
It goes without saying that you must be able to demonstrate a mastery of clear, concise and consistent language use. We’ll give preference to people with an interest in or knowledge of languages other than English, and/or broad industry experience.
If you consider yourself an out-of-the-box problem solver who is focused on results and customer satisfaction, who derives professional validation from a job well done, who has never met a piece of software that can’t be tamed and can spot a typo at 50 yards, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
